U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he is donating his presidential salary, stating that the funds will be used to support ongoing renovation efforts at the White House.
In a post shared Wednesday on his platform, Truth Social, Trump said his “first paycheck” had been sent to the White House Historical Association to assist with what he described as “very necessary” updates to the presidential residence.
According to reports, the renovations include a comprehensive overhaul of the Rose Garden and plans to construct a large new ballroom on the premises.
Trump emphasized that these projects are part of his broader efforts to preserve and modernize the White House.
He also claimed that he is “the only president—perhaps with the exception of George Washington—who has donated his entire salary while in office.”
However, historical records show that former presidents Herbert Hoover and John F. Kennedy also donated their presidential salaries.
The White House Historical Association, a private nonprofit organization, plays a key role in preserving the White House’s history and aesthetic integrity through fundraising and oversight of restoration projects.
