The Hamas movement described statements made by U.S. President Donald Trump—accusing the group of stealing aid delivered to the Gaza Strip—as "baseless" and called on Washington to take responsibility.
The response came from senior Hamas official Izzat al-Rishq, in a statement issued in reaction to Trump's claims that Hamas "steals" the aid.
Al-Rishq said the American and Israeli allegations accusing Hamas of stealing scarce humanitarian aid reaching Gaza are false. He urged Washington to assume its moral and legal responsibilities and to stop backing Israel and shielding its crimes against Palestinians.
Previously, in an interview with the news outlet Axios, Trump accused Hamas of "stealing" aid entering Gaza and expressed "concern" over reports of famine in the region.
According to the news site, Trump stated that efforts were ongoing to draft a plan to provide aid to Gaza, which is suffering from a humanitarian catastrophe caused by Israel—without offering further details.
Responding to this, al-Rishq said, “We strongly condemn President Trump’s repetition of Israeli lies and allegations accusing Hamas of stealing and selling humanitarian aid in Gaza.”
He added, “Trump's accusations are unfounded and lack any evidence. They absolve the perpetrator and blame the victim.”
