On Friday, U.S. President Donald Trump commented on the situation in the Gaza Strip, describing it as heartbreaking, tragic, shameful, and catastrophic. He also expressed concerns about possible theft of humanitarian aid.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said, “We want to make sure people are getting food,” explaining that “Washington provided $60 million two weeks ago in aid to Gaza, but I don’t see any results from the assistance our administration has given.
He added that he’s investing the money to “make sure people get food” but sees no outcomes from that effort.
Trump’s remarks came ahead of the arrival of U.S. envoy to the Middle East, Steve Whitcoff, who is set to visit Gaza to assess the humanitarian aid process.
White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt stated that Whitcoff and U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee “will travel to Gaza to inspect current aid distribution sites” and aim to develop “a plan to deliver more food” to residents of the Strip facing “widespread famine,” according to the United Nations.
