Syrian sources revealed on Wednesday that Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaybani will visit Moscow—marking his first trip since the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
During the visit, Al-Shaybani is expected to meet with several Russian officials, according to Russia Today.
Following Assad’s departure, both Russia and Syria expressed their mutual desire to continue cooperation and strengthen their long-standing relationship.
The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Assad left Syria and ordered a peaceful transfer of power, noting that he and members of his family had arrived in Moscow, where they were granted humanitarian asylum.
The statement added that Assad had negotiated with parties involved in the Syrian armed conflict and that these negotiations led to the peaceful handover of power and his exit from office. Russia stated it was not a party to those negotiations.
