Germany Deports Iraqi Refugees to Their Home Country.

German authorities announced on Tuesday the deportation of refugees required to leave the country. A plane departed from Leipzig Airport in eastern Germany, heading to the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, carrying a number of Iraqi refugees.

According to the German News Agency (DPA), citing data from FlightRadar24, the aircraft took off at 10:52 a.m. Police officers escorted the deportees to the aircraft, transporting them from the airport terminal in special police buses.

Germany's Interior Ministry has not yet disclosed the number of Iraqi deportees aboard the flight.

This deportation follows a similar operation last Friday to Kabul, during which 81 Afghans—described by authorities as "dangerous and highly serious criminals"—were sent back.

According to the Interior Ministry, Germany deported 816 Iraqis last year, including 615 who were returned directly to Iraq. The remainder were transferred to other European countries to complete their procedures.

In February, another flight departed from Hannover Airport to Baghdad carrying 47 deportees.

These measures come despite ongoing security tensions and challenging living conditions in Iraq.

UN data indicates that the country hosts around 1.2 million internally displaced persons and more than 3 million people in need of humanitarian assistance.

A survey conducted by the International Organization for Migration in 2023 revealed that nearly half of the Iraqis who returned were considering leaving the country again within six months due to harsh conditions.
