U.S. Special Envoy to Syria Tom Barrack on Tuesday issued a warning to Syria’s interim president, Ahmad Al-sharaa, urging him to "mature as a president" and adopt more inclusive policies. He indicated that continuing the current approach could lead to a loss of international backing.
Barrack said he advised Al-Sharaa in private discussions to reconsider aspects of Syria’s pre-war military structure, reduce Islamic indoctrination, and seek regional security assistance.
In an interview in Beirut, Barrack told Reuters that without rapid changes, Al-Sharaa risks losing the momentum that once propelled him to power.
Barrack noted that Al-Sharaa should say, "I will adapt quickly—because if I don’t, I will lose the cosmic energy that was once behind me."
He added that Al-Sharaa should “mature as a president and admit, ‘My current approach is not working.”
