On Monday, Yemen’s Ansar Allah movement (the Houthis) announced it had targeted Lod and Ramon airports, as well as two additional sites in Ashdod and Jaffa, and the port of Eilat in Israel, using five drones.
The group's military spokesperson, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, stated in a press release:
“In response to Israel’s recent aggression against the port of Hodeidah, the Yemeni Armed Forces’ drone unit carried out a specialized military operation.”
He explained that:
“The operation targeted Lod Airport and another military site in Jaffa, the port of Umm Al-Rashrash, Ramon Airport, and a vital location in Ashdod in the occupied Palestinian territories. The operation was successfully carried out using five drones, thanks to God.”
Earlier the same day, the Israeli Defense Forces said in a statement that the Israeli Air Force intercepted a drone believed to have been launched from Yemen, noting that “no alarms were activated in accordance with protocol.”
Additionally, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced in the morning that the Air Force conducted strikes on Hodeidah in Yemen. The military reported hitting “military infrastructure of the Houthis at the port of Hodeidah.”
The Houthis have carried out a series of military operations in the Red Sea and against Israel, describing them as a “practical response” to what they call ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza.
