An Iranian official revealed on Friday that intelligence information indicates the United States is preparing for a military conflict with Iran in the near future.

Iranian state-run channel Press TV quoted a senior Iranian official as saying that Iran possesses intelligence suggesting the United States is using diplomatic initiatives as a cover for military preparations and that Tehran should prepare for conflict rather than engage in talks.

According to the same official, the information also indicates that Washington is pursuing negotiations to prepare for war, not to achieve peace. He stated, “If that is the case, we see no reason to waste time and prefer to focus on preparing for conflict.”

He pointed out that Iran believes the purpose of the negotiations is to disarm Iran in order to compensate for Israel’s weakness in the upcoming war. He added that any new round of negotiations must include serious and practical guarantees to ensure the process is not merely a cover for security deception.

He also explained that discussions must address key issues such as Israel’s nuclear arsenal and compensation for the recent war, stressing “the importance of obtaining guarantees that U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff is a mediator for resolving the conflict, not a spark for war. Providing such guarantees is very difficult, but we are ready to give the United States another chance and listen to what it has to say on the matter and observe its practical actions.”

Last week, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Iran’s nuclear program had suffered irreparable damage due to American attacks last month and noted he was in no hurry to resume negotiations with Tehran.

On June 24, a U.S.-brokered ceasefire was announced between Iran and Israel, following Iran’s missile strikes on the Al Udeid base in Qatar.
