On Tuesday, the Israeli army announced that dozens of Israelis crossed the border into Syria. According to a Hebrew newspaper, their entry was intended to support and stand in solidarity with the people of Sweida.
Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee stated on his account on platform “X” that dozens of Israeli civilians crossed the border fence into Syrian territory, specifically in the Majdal Shams area.
According to Yedioth Ahronoth, the civilians—Israeli Druze—crossed into the Druze village of Al-Khader to support residents of Sweida, the stronghold of the Druze community.
Adraee added that Israeli army forces are currently working to return them safely to Israel.
Majdal Shams, the largest Druze village in the Golan Heights in southern Syria, is under Israeli control.
This development comes amid escalating tensions and violent clashes in Sweida, coinciding with Israeli airstrikes that have recently hit the city.
