Religious Parties Withdraw from the Israeli Government.

The “Agudat Israel” party has announced its withdrawal from the ruling coalition, coinciding with “Degel HaTorah’s” intention to resign as well, in protest against a proposed bill exempting religious school students from military service—considered exceeding previous understandings.

According to the newspaper Israel Hayom, resignations from Degel HaTorah members will take effect within 48 hours, amid efforts to hold meetings in the coming hours to convince the party to reconsider and stay in the coalition.

Israel’s public broadcaster reported that Degel HaTorah’s leadership has reaffirmed its withdrawal despite political pressure, emphasizing that the proposed legislation “exceeds what was agreed upon” and that the party “will not reverse its decision.”

The newspaper Maariv stated that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu now heads a narrow coalition of just 61 Knesset members following the recent resignations. It warned that if the Shas party also withdraws, the government will lose its majority and turn into a minority government with only 50 members.

Israel Hayom added that if the resignations of the United Torah Judaism alliance (which includes both Degel HaTorah and Agudat Israel) go into effect within the next two days, the coalition will face major challenges in maintaining stability due to its fragile majority in the Knesset.
