The Iraqi Presidency welcomed the announcement by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) to begin the process of laying down arms.
In an official statement, it said:
“We welcome the PKK’s declaration to begin the disarmament process—a significant historic step that paves the way to end armed conflict and decades-long security violations, which have claimed the lives of many citizens.
This move opens the door to future prospects that will contribute to enhancing peace in the region.
The presidency called for “a full commitment to maintaining security and stability and support for the legitimate rights of all parties.
It emphasized that “this step represents a vital component for reinforcing regional security and stability and enables strengthening bilateral relations between Iraq and Turkey based on mutual respect for sovereignty and the safety of both friendly peoples.
Finally, the Presidency declared its “full support to ensure the success of this initiative to its conclusion and to contribute to achieving its desired goals of closing a painful chapter in the past and opening a new one centered on cooperation and mutual coordination for the benefit of all.
