On Thursday, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called for the recognition of the State of Palestine as a means to achieve peace.
Macron, during a joint press conference with Starmer in London, stated, “I believe in the future of a two-state solution… which would allow Israel to live in peace and security with its neighbors. I believe in the need to unite our voices—in Paris, in London, and everywhere—to recognize the State of Palestine and launch the political momentum that alone can lead to a prospect of peace.
For his part, British Prime Minister Starmer said, “We have long pursued a policy of recognizing Palestine, and there is no peace without a path to a two-state solution,” while also emphasizing that “the situation in Gaza is unbearable, and we need a ceasefire, humanitarian aid, and the release of hostages.”
