On Thursday, Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, met with Steven Fagin, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Iraq, to discuss financial challenges between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government, as well as the management of oil extracted from fields located within the region.
According to a statement from the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides reviewed the latest political developments in Iraq, particularly the relationship between the federal government and the Kurdistan Region, focusing on financial challenges and related issues.
The statement noted that both parties also discussed the status of American companies operating in the Kurdistan Region and the relationship between Baghdad and Erbil regarding the management of regional oil resources. Fuad Hussein emphasized the importance of reaching realistic solutions that ensure fair management of national wealth and serve Iraq’s public interest.
During the meeting, Hussein reaffirmed the Iraqi government's commitment to strengthening cooperation with the United States across various sectors and supporting political and economic stability in the country, in pursuit of shared national interests.
