In a televised interview, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi ended the debate surrounding the fate of the Fordow nuclear site, which was struck by American forces during the 12-day war with Israel. Araghchi stated that the facility sustained “severe damage,” while also confirming that authorities still do not know the exact nature of the damage done to Fordow.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump had claimed the strikes “completely and thoroughly wiped out” Iran’s nuclear program, although American officials acknowledged that a full assessment of the damage would take time.
According to the Pentagon, the bombs used to strike Iranian sites were GBU-57 bunker-busters, specifically targeting the Fordow facility, which allowed them to penetrate its underground compounds.
The Washington Post had reported last Sunday, citing four sources described as having access to intelligence within the White House, that intercepted Iranian communications downplayed the extent of the damage inflicted by the American strikes on Iran’s nuclear program.
