The Trump administration receives information about the readiness of Israel to strike Iran.

On Thursday, American reports revealed that President Donald Trump and senior White House officials received intelligence indicating that Israel is "fully prepared" to launch a military operation against Iran.

Multiple sources told CBS News that Israeli officials and White House spokespeople declined to comment on the information.

Previous reports had suggested that Israel was considering striking Iran, despite American requests for restraint as long as nuclear negotiations between Washington and Tehran continued.

For years, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed deep skepticism about any agreement with Iran. His office has stated that Israel has conducted "countless public and secret operations" to curb Iran’s nuclear program.

In May, Trump publicly stated that he had urged Netanyahu not to attack Iran while his administration was still negotiating with Tehran. “I told him (Netanyahu) that it would be inappropriate to do that now because we are very close to a solution,” Trump said at the time.

If Israel launches an attack, the U.S. anticipates that Iran may retaliate against certain American sites in neighboring Iraq.

Washington had previously announced its intention to reduce staff at its embassy in Baghdad for security reasons. Trump reiterated that the Middle East is a "dangerous place," following Iran's threats to target U.S. bases in the region if a conflict erupts.

During his appearance at the Kennedy Center on Wednesday, Trump told reporters that Americans were advised to leave the Middle East "because it could be a dangerous place." He also reaffirmed that the U.S. "will not allow" Iran to develop a nuclear weapon.

The Trump administration is seeking a deal with Iran to limit its nuclear program, while international monitoring agencies report that Tehran has continued uranium enrichment close to the level required for nuclear weapons production.

The negotiations remain delicate, and it is unclear how close the two sides are to reaching an agreement. Trump has declared that he will not accept any uranium enrichment, whereas Iran insists that it has the right to do so while strongly denying any intent to develop nuclear weapons.

Two U.S. officials told CBS News that Washington’s Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, still plans to meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Sunday for a sixth round of talks on Iran’s nuclear program.
