The second round of negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian delegations concluded in Istanbul in a manner described as "not negative," according to Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesperson Oncu Keçeli.
Speaking to reporters, Keçeli stated, "The negotiations did not end negatively, and the delegations are currently having lunch."
Meeting Details
The talks lasted more than an hour on Monday at Çırağan Palace in Istanbul, with a Turkish delegation in attendance. The negotiations were led by Russian presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky.
Following the meeting, it was reported that the Russian delegation would soon hold a press conference in Istanbul.
Future of Talks
According to TASS News Agency, the talks will not continue further, and delegations will depart today.
Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that Russia and Ukraine would discuss ceasefire terms as well as the exchange of prisoners and civilians during the second round of negotiations.
Turkey’s Role & Expectations
In his opening speech, Fidan highlighted that the meeting also aimed to prepare for a potential summit between the leaders of both countries.
The minister reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to taking necessary steps to facilitate peace between Russia and Ukraine, emphasizing that both sides trust Turkey’s mediation efforts.
He concluded by stating that Turkey expects today’s meeting in Istanbul to be productive and yield tangible results.
