On Saturday, Hamas announced that it had submitted its response to the latest ceasefire proposal from U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff to mediators.
In a statement, Hamas declared:
"After conducting a round of national consultations, we have submitted our response to U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff’s latest proposal to the mediators."
The statement further emphasized that Hamas' response guarantees a permanent ceasefire, complete withdrawal from Gaza, and the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid.
Under the proposed agreement:
- Hamas would release 10 living Israeli captives and 18 bodies in exchange for an agreed-upon number of Palestinian detainees.
Israel’s Position & Ceasefire Terms
On Thursday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approved Witkoff’s proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza.
According to Israeli media, the new deal includes
- The release of 9 living hostages and 18 deceased hostages,
- Their release in two phases over one week.
In return, Israel would commit to a 60-day ceasefire, during which negotiations to end the war would take place.
If no agreement is reached at the end of the negotiations, Israel could either resume military operations or continue negotiations in exchange for the release of more hostages.
