Highlights from Prime Minister Al-Sudani Speech at the Opening of the 34th Arab Summit in Baghdad:

• I welcome you in the name of the Iraqi people and our esteemed guests, including Mr. Pedro Sánchez, Prime Minister of Spain, and Mr. António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations.

  • • The Arab peoples look to you today, hoping to translate positions into solutions for challenges and dangers, awaiting realistic and practical steps.

  • • Iraq has pursued a foreign policy that prioritizes partnership and cooperation with Arab brothers.

  • • Our foreign policy is based on the principles of good neighborliness, non-interference in internal affairs, and neutrality in regional and international alignments.

  • • We have supported solutions based on dialogue and understanding, contributed to bridging differences, and adopted a productive diplomacy.

  • • Our vision for resolving crises in the region starts with the Palestinian people's full right to live in dignity on their land and ending ongoing aggression.

  • • The genocide against the Palestinian people has reached a level of brutality unseen in history’s conflicts.

  • • We reject, and will continue to reject, forced displacement of Palestinians. Attacks on Gaza, the West Bank, and occupied territories must stop, and humanitarian aid must be allowed.

  • We have all seen images of children waiting in long lines for a morsel of food or a piece of bread—what will this generation’s memory record in pain and injustice?

  • • We call for serious Arab action to rescue Gaza and reactivate UNRWA’s role in the sector and the West Bank.

  • • We support a ceasefire in southern Lebanon and condemn repeated violations of its sovereignty.

  • • We reaffirm our stance in support of Syria’s unity and sovereignty, rejecting any aggression or control over Syrian land.

  • • We will spare no effort in supporting our Syrian brothers in establishing a state of citizenship, a democratic constitutional system, and a transitional process that guarantees Syrian rights and combats terrorism.

  • • We commend the U.S. decision to lift sanctions on Syria and hope it alleviates the suffering of the Syrian people.

  • • Iraq affirms its support for Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, and an end to conflict to ease humanitarian suffering.

  • • Iraq insists on preserving Sudan’s unity and finding sustainable solutions amid its severe humanitarian crisis.

  • • Our fraternal bond with Libya calls for a unified solution through dialogue to enhance stability and end divisions.

  • • We welcome and support U.S.-Iran negotiations, believing in peace, coexistence, and productive communication.

  • • We must pursue fundamental solutions addressing root problems while ensuring interconnected Arab security and fostering institutional mechanisms that support stability.

  • • We announce 18 ambitious initiatives to enhance Arab cooperation, including establishing an Arab recovery and reconstruction fund for post-crisis development.

  • • Iraq contributes $20 million for rebuilding Gaza and $20 million for Lebanon’s reconstruction.

  • • This summit is not just a meeting—it marks the beginning of a project we hope will create a historic turning point and a new path for a prosperous future for our nations.

  • • Baghdad is honored to host you, standing strong and proud, shaping solutions, and confronting challenges.
