No new Pope was elected after the third ballot of the conclave to choose the 267th Pontiff.
At 11:50 AM on Thursday, black smoke rose from the Sistine Chapel chimney, indicating that the second vote of the first full day —and the third vote overall —was inconclusive.
As the cardinals break for lunch, crowds gathered in St. Peter’s Square continue to watch the chimney in anticipation. Voting is expected to resume at around 4:00 PM.
Approximately 15,000 people have assembled in St. Peter’s Square, eagerly awaiting the next announcement.
