U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance expressed pessimism about the possibility of the war between Russia and Ukraine ending soon, stating that the conflict will continue as long as both sides remain entrenched in their positions.
In an interview with Fox News, Vance remarked, "This war is not ending anytime soon," suggesting that hostilities will persist unless both parties move toward a peaceful resolution.
He added, "The ball is now in Russia's and Ukraine’s court—both sides know each other’s conditions for peace, and it’s up to them to make a decision to end this brutal conflict."
Regarding negotiation prospects, Vance emphasized that the first step toward a solution requires each side to present a clear peace proposal, noting that a significant gap still exists between their demands.
He further explained, "Diplomacy's primary mission now is to bridge the differences, but the divide between what Russia wants and what Ukraine demands remains deep."
