Iraqi Prime Minister: Al-Sharaa Represents the Syrian State and His Presence at the Arab Summit Is Important.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani stated on Friday that the presence of Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa at the Arab Summit is significant, emphasizing that he represents the Syrian state regardless of how power was transferred.

In press statements, Al-Sudani said, "Holding the summit in Baghdad is important as it underscores Iraq's balanced positions and its commitment to regional issues." He noted that "Iraq will play an active role in the summit and will present solutions to various regional crises."

He explained that "the invitation extended to the Syrian president follows the established protocol within the Arab League."

Al-Sudani stressed that "Al-Sharaa's presence at the summit is crucial for clarifying Syria’s new vision, as Arab nations are keen on helping Syria overcome its hardship." He added, "Syria's security is part of Iraq's national security."

He also highlighted the need to "adopt clear positions to achieve stability in Syria and address challenges, especially security-related ones," warning that "ISIS militants remain active and highly operational in Syria."

Bashar Al-Assad's regime in Syria fell on December 8 , and Al-Sharaa subsequently assumed the presidency.
