Passing of the Oldest Person in the World: Brazilian Nun Ina Canabarro Lucas Dies at 116.

Brazilian nun Ina Canabarro Lucas, recognized as the world’s oldest person by the Guinness World Records, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 116.

According to the Longevity Quest database, which specializes in documenting centenarians, Canabarro—born on June 8, 1908 —died in Brazil at the age of 116 years and 326 days.

The database noted in its obituary that, "Although she claimed her birth date was May 27, 1908, research suggested it was actually 11 days later. Due to her frail health in childhood, many doubted her ability to survive."

When asked about the secret to her longevity, Canabarro attributed it to divine providence, stating, "God helped me live these long years. It is the secret of life. It is the secret of everything."
