Russian President Vladimir Putin issued directives to halt military operations and implement a ceasefire during celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of Victory Day, citing humanitarian reasons.
A Kremlin statement clarified that the truce would take effect from midnight on May 7–8 until midnight on May 10–11, emphasizing that all combat operations will be suspended during this period.
The statement called on Ukraine to take a similar step by declaring a ceasefire in honor of the anniversary, while also warning that Russian forces would respond appropriately and decisively if Ukraine violated the truce.
Moscow reiterated its call for peace negotiations with Ukraine without preconditions, expressing its willingness to address the root causes of the crisis through dialogue and cooperate constructively with international partners to achieve a comprehensive and sustainable settlement.
