The Vatican doctor revealed that Pope Francis passed away at the age of 88 due to a stroke followed by heart failure.
In the death certificate issued by Vatican physician Andrea Arcangeli, it was stated that the Pope died as a result of a stroke and heart failure. The document, published by the Vatican, noted that Pope Francis had fallen into a coma before passing away early Monday morning.
The statement added that the Pope also suffered from other health conditions, including a previous episode of acute respiratory failure, arterial hypertension, and type 2 diabetes.
Earlier this year, the late Pope was hospitalized for five weeks, initially suffering from severe respiratory inflammation, which was later diagnosed as a multi-microbial infection that progressed into pneumonia affecting both lungs. His medical team revealed that he nearly succumbed to the illness during his hospitalization in mid-February.
The statement was signed by Andrea Arcangeli , the Director of Health and Hygiene at the Vatican State.
