The U.S. Senate has confirmed the appointment of Mike Huckabee, a Baptist evangelical pastor known for his strong support of Israel, as the United States Ambassador to Israel.

Huckabee is well-known for his pro-Israel statements, including his remarks about Israel's "divine right" to the West Bank. He will head to the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem at a sensitive time, as Israel continues its renewed military campaign in Gaza, which has received the backing and endorsement of U.S. President Donald Trump.

The Senate vote on Huckabee's appointment was largely partisan, with 53 members supporting Trump's nominee, including one Democrat, John Fetterman.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar quickly contacted Huckabee to congratulate him, describing him as a "true friend of the Jewish state." Meanwhile, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, a far-right politician residing in West Bank settlements, expressed hope on the platform "X" to collaborate with Huckabee in advancing "shared values and goals."

President Trump praised Huckabee following the vote, stating that he "will be a great ambassador for Israel" and predicting his "success" in the role.

Huckabee, a former governor of Arkansas, is one of the most prominent supporters of Israel and the annexation of the West Bank.
