Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto expressed on Wednesday his country's readiness to temporarily host around 1,000 Palestinians in the first phase, prioritizing the injured.
According to the Indonesian news outlet Antara News, Subianto made these remarks at the airport before embarking on a tour that includes the UAE, Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, and Jordan. He stated, "We are ready to host around 1,000 Palestinians in the first phase, with priority given to the injured." He added, "We are prepared to send planes to bring them here," noting that the Palestinians would stay temporarily until they recover.
Subianto emphasized, "We first need to obtain the approval of all parties. That is why I will hold meetings with regional leaders." He also mentioned that this plan would be discussed with the Palestinian administration.
This comes amid a U.S.-Israeli plan to displace Palestinians from Gaza, despite an emergency Arab summit on March 4 adopting a plan to rebuild Gaza without displacing its residents. The plan, estimated to take five years and cost $53 billion, was rejected by Israel and the United States, which insisted on Trump's proposal to relocate Gazan Palestinians to neighboring countries like Egypt and Jordan. Both countries, along with other Arab nations and regional and international organizations, opposed the plan.
With full U.S. support, Israel has been committing acts of genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, resulting in over 166,000 Palestinian casualties, including the injured, most of whom are women and children, and more than 11,000 missing.
