Wall Street Journal: 54% of Americans Oppose Tariffs by Trump on Imported Goods.

The Wall Street Journal, citing a survey it conducted, reported that more than half of Americans disapprove of the tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump's administration on products from other countries.

The survey, conducted between March 27 and April 1, included 1,500 registered American citizens.

The newspaper noted that "54% of Americans oppose the tariffs imposed by Trump on imported goods, which is 12% more than those who support his plans."

According to the survey, three-quarters of Americans believe that the tariffs will lead to higher prices for goods.

The data also revealed that Trump's overall approval rating stood at 46%, with 44% of Americans approving of his economic measures.

Meanwhile, 41% of Americans believe the United States is heading in the right direction, the highest level recorded in Wall Street Journal surveys since late 2021. However, 52% say the economic situation is worsening.

Additionally, more than half of Americans believe that Trump's policies to combat illegal immigration are correct.

Many countries around the world have expressed anger and shock at President Trump's decision to impose new and extensive tariffs. Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly stated that relations with the United States would never return to their previous state.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that Ottawa would impose a 25% tariff on all imports of American cars not produced under the North American Free Trade Agreement, which includes Mexico, Canada, and the United States.

Meanwhile, the Chinese government announced on Friday that it would impose a 34% tariff on all imports of American products starting April 10, in response to a similar measure taken by President Trump. Trump, in turn, warned of retaliatory actions against Beijing's decision.
