Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated during a cabinet meeting, "The American side has received Iran's response to the letter from U.S. President Donald Trump through the Sultanate of Oman."
Pezeshkian added, "In this response, while rejecting the idea of direct negotiations between the two sides, it was emphasized that the door to indirect negotiations remains open." He further noted, "Iran has never avoided the option of negotiation, but the breach of commitments by the other side has been the reason for the stalemate in this process, which must be addressed to rebuild trust.
The Iranian president highlighted that the behavior of the Americans would determine the future of this negotiation process.
Following Tehran's announcement that it had officially responded to the U.S. president's letter inviting negotiations, Iranian sources revealed its content.
Mohammad Saleh Sedqian, Director of the Arab Center for Iranian Studies, shared the text of Trump's letter on his account on the platform X on Saturday.
Text of the Letter:
"Your Excellency Ayatollah Khamenei,
With respect for your leadership and the people of Iran, I write this letter to open new horizons for our relations, away from the years of conflict, misunderstandings, and unnecessary confrontations we have witnessed in past decades. It is time to leave hostility behind and open a new chapter of cooperation and mutual respect. Today, we also have a historic opportunity before us.
Under my leadership, the United States of America is ready to take a significant step toward peace and reducing tensions. Together, we can lift sanctions, empower the Iranian economy, and open doors for cooperation between our countries—not only for the benefit of our peoples but also for the stability and peace of the Middle East and the entire world.
However, I warn you, if you reject this extended hand, and if the Iranian regime chooses the path of escalation, continued support for terrorist organizations, and military adventures, the response will be decisive and swift. We will not stand idly by in the face of threats from your regime to our people or our allies.
Peace is not weakness; it is the choice of the strong. The Iranian people are a great people who deserve a better future, free from isolation, poverty, and suffering.
If you are ready to negotiate, we are ready too. But if you continue to ignore the demands of the world, history will record that you missed a great opportunity."
