Thai Government Declares Emergency in Bangkok Following Earthquake.

Thai authorities declared a state of emergency in Bangkok on Friday, according to Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, after a powerful earthquake with its epicenter in Myanmar struck the city.

Buildings across Bangkok sustained damage from the 7.7 magnitude quake, and an under-construction skyscraper collapsed, trapping 43 workers under its rubble, according to police and rescue teams.

The earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.7, hit central Myanmar on Friday, as reported by the U.S. Geological Survey. The tremor caused cracks in roads in Myanmar's capital, Naypyidaw, and was felt by residents in China and Thailand.

The epicenter of the quake was located about 16 kilometers northwest of the city of Sagaing at a depth of 10 kilometers, around 12:50 local time (06:20 GMT), according to the agency.

In Bangkok, some metro and light rail services were suspended.
