Amid accusations of undemocratic practices and continuing the war in Gaza while ignoring the fate of hostages still held in the besieged Palestinian territory, thousands of Israelis protested in Jerusalem against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The demonstration, held near the parliament building on Wednesday and described as the largest in months, included families and relatives of the hostages, as well as opponents of the Prime Minister. The protest was organized by opposition groups following Netanyahu's announcement of his intention to dismiss the head of the Shin Bet (Israel's internal security agency), Ronen Bar.
Protesters chanted against the Prime Minister while wearing red gloves, shouting, "Your hands are stained with blood," and "You are the president, and you are to blame." Other demonstrators carried signs reading, "Military pressure will kill them," referring to the hostages, and "Save Israel from Netanyahu.
Simultaneously, the Israeli army resumed heavy strikes on Gaza today, resulting in hundreds of deaths since early yesterday morning. The Families of Hostages Forum criticized the resumption of the war, stating that this decision sacrifices the Israeli hostages in Gaza. They also accused Netanyahu of using the war to deflect internal criticism and consolidate power within the executive branch.
