Following the bloody clashes in Syria's coastal region between security forces and armed factions loyal to former president Bashar al-Assad in recent days, the Syrian presidency announced on Sunday the formation of an independent committee to investigate the incidents.
According to a statement published on its Telegram account, the committee tasked with "investigating and uncovering the facts regarding the coastal events of March 6, 2025" consists of seven members. Its responsibilities include "investigating the violations committed against civilians, identifying those responsible," and "referring individuals proven to have committed crimes and violations to the judiciary," as reported by Agence France-Presse.
Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani affirmed that "all those involved in the coastal events will be prosecuted.
Earlier today, President Ahmed Al-Sharaa reiterated his call to uphold civil peace and national unity.
