Official results have shown that former central bank governor Mark Carney has won the race for leadership of Canada's ruling Liberal Party and will assume the position of Prime Minister, succeeding Justin Trudeau.

Carney's election comes at a time when the country faces threats of tariffs from U.S. President Donald Trump, with the federal elections approaching.
