The South Korean Air Force and Fire Department reported that 15 people were injured on Thursday after bombs from fighter jets accidentally hit a civilian area during military exercises in Bucheon, causing damage to homes and a church.

The Gyeonggi-do Bukbu Fire Services stated in a report that 15 people were injured, two of whom are in critical condition.

Bucheon is located 40 kilometers northeast of Seoul and near the heavily armed border with North Korea.

The South Korean Air Force explained that eight MK-82 bombs, weighing 500 pounds each, from KF-16 fighter jets fell outside the firing range during a live-fire joint drill. They expressed regret in a statement for the damages caused by the "unusual accident.

According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korea conducted the live-fire exercises in Bucheon jointly with the United States on Thursday.

The South Korean National Fire Agency reported that the bombs are believed to have fallen on a village during the joint military drill between South Korea and the United States.

The explosion of the bombs resulted in "human casualties and property damage, displacing several residents."
