Maria Lvova-Belova, Russian Presidential Commissioner for Children's Rights, said in remarks published on Wednesday by the Russian news agency that Moscow is working to return 16 children from Ukraine to Russia and plans to reunite 10 Ukrainian children with their families.
Lvova-Belova stated in an interview with the agency, "We have a clear presidential mandate to work only with fully qualified legal representatives, meaning relatives and parents who have legal authority and can take care of their children.
She added that through these channels, 95 children have so far been reunited with their relatives in Ukraine, and 17 children have returned to Russia.
Moscow and Kyiv have conducted several child exchanges to reunite them with their families since the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
According to data from the Ukrainian Ministry of Reintegration, Kyiv has returned 1,277 children so far, including through non-governmental organizations and independent initiatives.
