To deepen the Catholic theological understanding of the Human Fraternity Document and explore best practices in its implementation, St. Francis Church in the Abrahamic Family House-Abu Dhabi hosted the first edition of the program Formation and Exchange in the Context of the Human Fraternity Document and Its Applications." The program was organized in partnership with the Apostolic Vicariate of Southern Arabia and the Ecumenical and Interreligious Dialogue Office of the Italian Bishops' Conference.
Father Stefano Luca, Priest of St. Francis Church and Director of the Ecumenical and Interfaith Dialogue Office in the Vicariate, revealed the presence of 15 regional delegates from 11 Italian dioceses, in addition to 5 delegates from the Apostolic Vicariate of Southern Arabia. Over five days, they participated in training sessions followed by visits to various religious sites to gain insights from other faiths present in the UAE, enabling the acquisition of both theoretical and practical experiences on the best practices of co-existence and dialogue.
He added, "Among the places we visited were the facilities of the Abrahamic Family House, which include, in addition to St. Francis Church, a Jewish temple, a mosque, and a dialogue forum. We also visited a Sikh temple, several Hindu temples, the Coptic and Roman Orthodox churches, an Anglican church, and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. At each site, we conducted interfaith dialogue sessions with religious leaders, allowing us to learn about the peaceful living model applied in the UAE." Luca confirmed that the future step involves inviting other bishops' councils to send their delegates to Abu Dhabi to participate in the training.
Bishop Derio Olivero, President of the Ecumenical and Interfaith Dialogue Committee in the Italian Bishops' Conference, emphasized the importance of all Italian bishops participating in this training in the future to embody the "Church of Dialogue," which will positively reflect on Italian society.
He added, "Being here in Abu Dhabi, specifically in the Abrahamic Family House, means being at the heart of a dream coming true. Our presence here is important to witness the belief that religions can become the yeast of fraternity and coexist with a shared desire, forming the nucleus of social cohesion."
