U.S. President Donald Trump, on Sunday evening, described the conservative victory in Germany's legislative elections as a "great day" for the country and the United States.
On his platform "Truth Social," Trump said, "It is a great day for Germany and the United States of America," after the Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) conservative party received nearly 29% of the votes, according to AFP.
He added, "As is the case in the United States, the German people are tired of the illogical agenda, especially regarding energy and immigration.
The conservatives, led by Friedrich Merz, won the legislative elections in Germany on Sunday, ahead of the far-right Alternative for Germany (ARD) party, despite it achieving its best result in history, according to two public TV exit polls.
The CDU/CSU conservative party obtained between 28.5% and 29% of the votes, according to the polls conducted by ARD and ZDF, while the ARD party received between 19.5% and 20%, an unprecedented result for a far-right party in federal elections since World War II.
