Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani received the European Union Commissioner for the Mediterranean and Middle East, Dubravka Šuica, at his residence in Munich today, Friday.
The meeting focused on discussing relations with the European Commission, ways to enhance them in various fields, and reviewing government efforts to hold subcommittee meetings between the two sides.
Prime Minister Al-Sudani congratulated Ms. Šuica on her new role, reaffirming the agreement with the President of the European Council on joint cooperation and the desire to hold the bilateral Cooperation Council this year.
He emphasized the government's determination to resolve the issue of lifting the EU flight ban on Iraqi Airways, with the Civil Aviation Authority participating in a technical meeting with the European Air Safety Team to discuss implementing recommendations and assessing Iraq's progress in applying international safety standards.
Al-Sudani also stressed Iraq's desire for all European countries to reopen their diplomatic missions in Baghdad. Iraq is currently studying the opening of new missions in some European cities and encouraging the European side to boost European companies' investments in Iraq, particularly in the fields of environment, energy, and agriculture with modern technologies.
For her part, Ms. Šuica expressed her keenness and desire to strengthen and develop economic relations and support European companies' work in Iraq in light of the strategic and investment projects announced by Iraq.
