On Thursday, the "Christian Alliance," comprising eight parties, issued a memorandum to five official Iraqi entities, demanding five rights. These include assigning the security file to the Christian and Yazidi communities of the original inhabitants of the Nineveh Plain and amending the law on parliamentary and provincial council elections.
The alliance also called for the enactment of a personal status law for non-Muslim religious communities, the implementation of Articles 140 and 125 of the Iraqi Constitution, and the amendment of the municipalities' revenues law.
The memorandum was addressed to the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament and his deputies, the President of the Federal Supreme Court and its members, the head of the legal committee in the Iraqi Parliament and its members, the heads of parliamentary blocs and members of Parliament, and the President and members of the Independent High Electoral Commission.
The memorandum was signed by the Presidency of the Political Council of the Christian Alliance, the Chaldean Democratic Union Party, the Chaldean National Council Party, the Syriac Assembly Movement Party, the World Chaldean League, the Administrative Committee for Armenian Orthodox Affairs, the Armenian Association, and the Shlama Movement.
