In his address after the Angelus prayer, Francis expressed his sympathy for the people of both countries, urging them towards brotherhood and solidarity and to avoid all forms of violence. He called on both parties in the Sudanese conflict to cease fighting and engage in negotiations, according to AFP.
He further appealed to the international community to do everything possible to deliver necessary humanitarian aid to the displaced and to help the warring parties swiftly pursue the path of peace.
Since April 2023, Sudan has witnessed a bloody conflict between the army, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the "Rapid Support Forces" led by his former deputy, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as "Hemedti.
The war has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths, with over 12 million people displaced and millions on the brink of famine, leading to the worst displacement crisis in the world, according to the United Nations.
