ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan announced that he will request arrest warrants for senior Taliban leaders on charges of persecuting women, which is considered a crime against humanity.

Khan requested arrest warrants for the Taliban's supreme leader, Hibatullah Akhundzada, and the Taliban's Chief Justice, Abdul Hakim Haqqani.

The document stated that the prosecutor has reasonable grounds to believe that both are criminally responsible for crimes against humanity related to gender-based persecution.
