TikTok has made its online application unavailable in the United States, following through on its threat in the absence of guarantees from President Joe Biden's administration. President-elect Donald Trump was unable to intervene before taking office on Monday.
When attempting to access TikTok, users receive the following message: "A law banning TikTok in the United States has been enforced. This means you can no longer use TikTok at this time.
Earlier, TikTok announced that it would stop its application in the United States starting Sunday, after failing to obtain guarantees from the Biden administration "not to enforce the law" that bans the platform in the U.S. unless its Chinese owner agrees to sell it.
On Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld a law banning the TikTok video-sharing application in the United States, potentially depriving 170 million users of it by January 19.
The company stated on the "X" platform on Friday evening that it would "unfortunately be forced" to stop its application in the U.S. on Sunday, while Trump cannot intervene to stop the ban before taking office on Monday.
Following the decision, the outgoing Biden administration stated that it is up to Trump to decide whether to enforce the law.
