Aswan al-Kildani member of the Iraqi Parliament representing the Christian Quota announces the first reading of the Minorities Protection Law following a proposal by the Babylon Parliamentary Bloc.

The head of the Babylon Parliamentary Bloc, MP Aswan al-Kildani, announced today the inclusion of the first reading of the Minorities Protection Law on the agenda of the 18th parliamentary session. This milestone follows significant efforts by Babylon Bloc to secure the necessary signatures from members of parliament.

Al-Kildani emphasized that the law encompasses Iraqi minorities, including Christians, Yazidis, and Mandaeans, aiming to provide legal protection, ensure their constitutional rights, and promote peaceful coexistence in Iraq.

The Babylon Bloc also stated that efforts will be made to amend certain provisions of the draft law and to add new articles that serve the interests of these communities, ensuring greater fairness and the safeguarding of their cultural, social, and political rights.

In addition, the bloc affirmed that this step complements its ongoing efforts to defend the rights of Iraqi Christians and other minorities and to solidify their presence and role in shaping the country's future.

The Minorities Protection Law is regarded as a vital piece of legislation aimed at achieving equality and social justice. It reflects the national efforts of the Iraqi Parliament to meet the aspirations of all the components of the Iraqi people.
