Two sources reported that the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden has notified Congress of a potential $8 billion arms deal with Israel. This deal includes munitions for fighter jets, attack helicopters, artillery shells, and missiles.

The report mentioned that the deal would need approval from committees in both the House of Representatives and the Senate. It includes artillery shells and air-to-air missiles for fighter jets to defend against threats such as drones.

An American official stated, "The president has made clear that Israel has the right to defend its citizens, consistent with international law and international humanitarian law, and to deter aggression from Iran and its allied organizations.

The package also includes small-diameter bombs and warheads.

Diplomatic efforts have so far failed to end the ongoing 15-month Israeli war in Gaza.

President Joe Biden is set to leave office on January 20, to be succeeded by President-elect Donald Trump.
