Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani chaired a special meeting on energy projects on Monday, where several important issues related to the gas and electricity sectors in Iraq were discussed.
The Prime Minister's media office explained that the meeting addressed gas projects currently under implementation within the government program, focusing on the specified timeline for completing these projects. Progress in reducing associated gas flaring was also reviewed, with the current cessation rate at 67%. It is expected to reach 80% by the end of next year, with a complete cessation by the end of 2027.
The meeting also discussed inviting specialized American companies to establish a fixed gas platform at the Grand Faw Port, aiming to enhance the gas sector in Iraq.
Additionally, the importance of inviting global energy companies to invest in natural gas fields in Iraq was highlighted, along with discussing the fuel supply plan for power generation plants, both currently and for the coming months, to ensure sustainable and efficient electricity production.
The meeting emphasized the importance of these steps in enhancing Iraq's ability to develop the energy sector and maximize the utilization of its natural resources.
