The Iranian leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, vowed on Saturday to respond to the attacks carried out by Israel and its ally, the United States, against Tehran or the groups it supports in the region.

Khamenei said during a speech to students in Tehran: "The two enemies, the United States and the Zionist entity, should know that they will definitely receive a harsh response for what they are doing against Iran and the Resistance Axis.

Khamenei made these statements to students before the anniversary of the seizure of the U.S. embassy in Tehran in 1979 by conservative students shortly after the revolution that overthrew the U.S.-backed Shah.

The attack led to the detention of 52 American diplomats as hostages, who were released after 444 days.

This announcement comes as Israel, which considers the United States its main ally, is engaged in a conflict with Iran and its allied armed groups in the region since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip against Hamas in response to the latter's attack on settlements in Israel on October 7.

On October 26, the Israeli army confirmed that it attacked military targets in Iran in an operation presented as a response to missile attacks.
