His Excellency the President of the Republic, Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received today, Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at the Baghdad Palace, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Iraq, Mr. Elbrus Kutrashev, who conveyed to His Excellency the greetings of Russian President Vladimir Putin and his congratulations on the successful elections of the Kurdistan Regional Parliament.
During the meeting, the President conveyed his greetings to President Putin through Ambassador Kotrachev and expressed his appreciation for his kind sentiments, affirming the depth of the friendship and cooperation between Iraq and Russia and the necessity of enhancing them to achieve the mutual interests of the two friendly countries.
The President emphasized the importance of expanding the horizons of bilateral cooperation, strengthening the bonds of friendship, and activating cultural cooperation mechanisms through the exchange of scholarships between Baghdad and Moscow in various fields.
The regional and international situations were also reviewed, foremost among them the aggression against Lebanon and Palestine. The President emphasized the importance of stopping the attacks on the Lebanese and Palestinian peoples, working to protect unarmed civilians, and establishing security and stability in the region. He also clarified Iraq's position on the Russian Ukrainian war, calling for its end and the adoption of dialogue and understanding to reach solutions to the problems between the two countries in a manner that serves international peace and security.
For his part, Ambassador Kotrashiv reiterated the Russian Federation's full support for Iraq's stability and its keenness to strengthen and develop the bonds of bilateral relations on various political, security, and economic levels, benefiting the two friendly countries and peoples.
