Vance calls on Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or Trump will return to war.

U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance urged Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, stating that the ceasefire agreement did not include Lebanon.
Vance said in a press statement: ‘Iran must reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and if it does not, President Trump will not abide by its terms.’ He added: ‘If we do not see this happen, the president will not adhere to our conditions if the Iranians do not adhere to theirs.’

Vance continued, "The Iranians thought the ceasefire included Lebanon, which is not true." We never made that promise, nor did we indicate that it would be the case.’ He explained, "The deal is a ceasefire and negotiations—that is what we are offering." What they offer in return is reopening the strait.’

The U.S. Vice President added that ‘the Israelis have shown restraint in Lebanon.’
He stressed that ‘the Iranians must come to the negotiating table and take the next step; otherwise, Trump has options to return to war.’

He continued: ‘The more concessions Iran offers us, the more gains it will receive from the negotiations,’ noting that ‘today we saw an increase in traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, and we hope to see a similar increase tomorrow.’

Earlier on Wednesday, Iran’s Fars News Agency reported that the Strait of Hormuz had been closed and that an oil tanker attempting to pass through it had been turned back, following Iranian threats to close the strait due to Israeli military escalation in Lebanon.

The agency said in its report that ‘based on maritime tracking data, the oil tanker Aurora, which was heading toward the exit of the Strait of Hormuz, suddenly changed course near the Musandam coast (near Khasab) and returned deep into the Arabian Gulf with a 180‑degree turn.’

The Israeli escalation in Lebanon had prompted Iranian statements threatening to close the Strait of Hormuz and withdraw from the ceasefire agreement with Washington. This led U.S. President Donald Trump to say that Lebanon was not part of the agreement, while Pakistan—which is mediating between the two sides—called for calm and warned against undermining the deal reached on Tuesday evening.

On Tuesday evening, U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced a two‑week truce between the two sides, during which bombardment and mutual attacks would stop under Pakistani mediation, paving the way for talks aimed at reaching a final agreement to end the war.”
