The Epstein scandal topples Norway’s ambassador to Iraq and Jordan.

The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the resignation of Mona Juul, the ambassador to Jordan and Iraq, after an investigation was opened into her ties with Jeffrey Epstein. The foreign minister accused her of poor judgment in her dealings with the man convicted of sexual crimes. Documents also indicated that Epstein had made million-dollar contributions to her family, and an investigation is underway into a grant given to her husband.

The U.S. Department of Justice released three million pages related to Epstein, containing the names of prominent international figures.

Mona Juul, 66, played a key role in the secret negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians that led to the 1993 Oslo Accords.

Norwegian media reported that Epstein allocated, in his will, 10 million dollars to Juul’s two children and her husband, diplomat Terje Rød‑Larsen, who also participated in the Oslo negotiations and held various roles in the Middle East as a special envoy for the UN Secretary‑General.

Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said it was the right and necessary decision, adding that Juul’s contacts with Epstein—who was convicted of sexual crimes—showed a serious lapse in judgment.

He confirmed that her decision to resign came after consultations with the Foreign Ministry following the appearance of her name in a large batch of files released by the U.S. government.
