The White House confirmed Thursday evening that the conversation between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin was “excellent and highly constructive.”

The White House revealed that the two presidents agreed to hold a high-level meeting between the American and Russian sides next week, noting that the upcoming meeting between Trump and Putin may take place in Budapest.

The White House also confirmed that President Putin expressed his commitment to sit down with President Trump.

Following the phone call, President Trump stated:

> “My call with Putin was productive, and our success in the Middle East will contribute to negotiations to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.”

He added:

 “I discussed trade with Russia with President Putin for the post-war period in Ukraine, and we agreed to hold a high-level advisors’ meeting next week.”

Trump also noted that:

 “President Putin congratulated me on achieving peace in the Middle East,” explaining that “the high-level advisors’ meeting with Russia will be led on the American side by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.”

He continued:

 “I believe my call with President Putin made significant progress, and I will meet with him in the Hungarian capital to see if we can end this disgraceful war between Russia and Ukraine.”

Trump concluded by saying:

 “Tomorrow, I will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House to discuss my call with President Putin and many other matters.”
