Baghdad Responds Strongly: Iraq Does Not Accept Guardianship… National Investigation Launched After U.S. Sanctions.

Al-Awla Channel – Baghdad, Iraq

The Iraqi government, in its first official response to the recent U.S. sanctions targeting the "Al-Muhandis General Company" and several other Iraqi entities, affirmed its commitment to the rule of law, declaring that it "rejects any guardianship or foreign interference in its internal affairs."

In an official statement, the government described the unilateral U.S. decision as "deeply regrettable" and inconsistent with the spirit of friendship and the historical ties between Baghdad and Washington. It emphasized that taking such actions without prior consultation sets a negative precedent in dealings between allied nations.

The Prime Minister announced the formation of a high-level national committee including representatives from the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank, the Integrity Commission, and the Federal Board of Supreme Audit. The committee is tasked with reviewing the case and submitting a detailed report within 30 days.

The statement stressed that the government protects workers and vital projects, and that any corrective measures will not affect citizens' rights. It reiterated its rejection of any financial or economic activity outside the framework of national legal standards.

The statement concluded by affirming the government's commitment to institutional and economic reforms and to building a transparent and balanced investment environment that serves Iraq’s interests and its people, reinforcing the principle of a strong and sovereign state.
